In June of 2016 I returned to Florence to work and study at the Santa Reparata International School of Art. I researched 19th century images of Florence at the Alinari Archive and made photographs of people making selfies in the most famous of the public spaces of Florence.
In the 19th century photographs, people embraced these spaces and often used them for personal and public ceremonies. Now people turn their backs on the architecture and art to frame themselves in the camera.
