Urban Pools

The images in the series “Urban Pools” are figurative tableaus photographed underwater.  They are a metaphor for emotional tensions, the daily struggle between liberation and constraint. The photographs of men and women are set in the context of an environment of no gravity and dramatic light.

The figures move through blue fields of water, either celebrating a form of weightlessness or embraced by fabrics and nets.  The frame of the camera establishes a space without horizon in the deep end of the pool.

The photographs are made on film (with a 35mm underwater camera), transferred to digital format and printed a large scale Iris Giclee prints on Hahnemuhle paper, editioned to 8.
